Milling machine refers to the machine which mainly uses milling cutters to process various surfaces on the workpiece. Usually, the main motion of milling cutter is rotation, and the movement of workpiece (and) milling cutter is feed motion. It can process plane and groove, also can process various curved surfaces, gears and so on.



Milling machine is a machine tool which uses milling cutter to milling workpiece. Milling machine can not only milling plane, groove, gear teeth, thread and spline shaft, but also process more complex surface, which is more efficient than planer. It has been widely used in mechanical manufacturing and repair departments.



Types of Milling Machines



1. According to its structure:



(1) Table milling machine: small milling machine for small parts such as milling instruments and instruments.



(2) Cantilever milling machine: milling machine with the milling head mounted on the cantilever, the bed is horizontally arranged. The cantilever can usually move vertically along the column guide rail on one side of the bed, and the milling head moves along the cantilever guide rail.



(3) Sleeper Milling Machine: The spindle is mounted on the sleeper, the bed is horizontally arranged, the sleeper can move horizontally along the saddle guide rail, and the saddle can move vertically along the column guide rail.



(4) Gantry milling machine: The machine bed is horizontally arranged, and the columns and connecting beams on both sides constitute the milling machine of the gantry frame. The milling head is mounted on the cross beam and the column, and can move along its guide rail. Usually the cross beam can move vertically along the column guide rail and the worktable can move vertically along the bed guide rail. For large parts processing.



(5) Plane milling machine: milling machine for milling plane and forming surface. The bed is horizontally arranged. Usually the table moves along the bed guide rail longitudinally, and the spindle can move axially. It has simple structure and high production efficiency.



(6) Profile milling machine: a milling machine for profiling workpieces. It is generally used to process workpieces with complex shapes.



(7) Lifting table milling machine: a milling machine with a lifting table that can move vertically along the bed guide rail. The worktable and the saddle usually installed on the lifting table can move vertically and horizontally, respectively.



(8) Rocker-arm milling machine: the rocker arm is installed at the top of the bed, the milling head is installed at one end of the rocker arm, the rocker arm can rotate and move in the horizontal plane, and the milling head can rotate at a certain angle on the end of the rocker arm.



(9) Bed Milling Machine: A milling machine whose worktable can not be lifted or lowered and can move longitudinally along the guide rail of the bed, and whose milling head or column can move vertically.
